About Palácio Nacional de Queluz

Commissioned by the future Dom Pedro II, king consort to D. Maria I, Queluz Palace was originally built as a summer residence for the royal family, becoming their preferred place of recreation and entertainment from 1794 until they departed for Brazil in 1807 following the French invasion.

Described by many as a smaller version of Versailles, its refined elegance and intricately-landscaped gardens dotted with statues and baroque fountains are an amazing sight for visitors.

The palace is occasionally used for concerts, exhibitions and historical re-enactments.
