Milford Writing Institute brings a unique film and writing retreat to Estoril

Where stories meet landscapes, cinema meets creativity.

This autumn, Cascais welcomes the Milford Writing Institute’s Classic Film & Writing Retreat, a unique week-long experience bringing together writers, film lovers and creative minds at the iconic Palácio Estoril Hotel.

Inspired by Portugal’s cinematic heritage and the timeless charm of the Estoril Coast, this immersive retreat invites participants to explore the places, stories and characters that shaped classic films, while developing their own writing with guidance from acclaimed professionals.

Throughout the week, participants will discover the landscapes of Cascais, Estoril, Lisbon and Sintra, visit iconic locations connected to film history, enjoy classic movie screenings introduced by film historian John DiLeo, and take part in writing workshops led by Richard C. Morais, founder of the Milford Writing Institute.

A celebration of storytelling, culture and place, the programme combines creative writing, cinema, history and the unique atmosphere of the Portuguese Riviera — a destination where inspiration comes naturally.
